Rule 1... JUST-SAY-NO!
We all must simply learn to say "NO!".
I learned a long time ago that your power in life... lies in "no".
I learned a long time ago that your power in life... lies in "no".
It's not about career or monetary success. It's about your peace of mind and your heart and the value of your energy and time. Which are really the most precious and finite things we have in life.
I always try to choose wisely... who... and what... I give my time and energy to. I don't always succeed, but I try.
Anyone who knows me knows that I can't stand wasting my time and energy in any capacity or any situation. Anything or anyone that takes me away from the things I value most in life has to go! I feel, that there's nothing worse or more damaging to our path, life and goals than wasted time and energy.
My family, a few sacred friendships and my company is where I place my time and energy. And for me, that's enough. I am fulfilled. I am full. There just isn't space for anything or anyone else at this point.
Yes, I used to post a ton on FB sometimes. But that had nothing to do with boredom or wasting my energy and time in lieu of anything else to do. If you ever saw me posting a lot on FB (or anywhere else for that matter) it's simply because I was in one of these times when I am forced to sit on my thumbs here and stare at this computer to make sure the show renders come out and don't stall (as they often tend to do). The truth is (and if you've followed me for any length of time, you know this to be true) that there are months and months that go by when I am simply a ghost here and am out enjoying and living my life out in the real word. Where we all should be.
So, to everyone who kindly and sincerely requests some time on FB or in real life, please don't take it personally. Given unlimited time and energy... YES!!! I WOULD LOVE TO (insert request here) but as it stands, if you're not part of my awesome immediate nuclear family, my love or my work, that answer is always going to be a quick and firm "no".
Here's a blurb from Warren Buffet that I keep running across on "The Book" here... Truth...
"The difference between successful people and really successful people is that really successful people say no to almost everything.".
– Warren Buffett
You can personally define what Mr. Buffett means as "really successful" in any way you want. I honestly don't think he meant "monetarily successful". That's just a quick, knee jerk reaction when you first read it and realize who's mouth it fell out of. If you ask me, there's far better and greater definitions of success than "monetary success". But whatever your definition of success may be, "monetarily" or otherwise, the power and path TO that success, always lies in "no".
"No" to the endless distractions, side-paths and detours that life throws in our way and takes us away from what we really should and want to be doing and engaging in.
So do yourself, your loved ones, your precious and finite energy and time a HUGE favor and...
