Loving my career and life. A tiny rant... 8/30/2017
I seem to get a lot of "opinions" in regards to my work ethic by 9-5ers lately and wanted to take a moment to get on my little soapbox and address it.
See... I love my job... and I love my life! I built this! I manifested this! Against all odds and from nothing but a spark of an idea. It's mine. And I earned the right to work as much as I want, thank you very much!
I will carry this sentiment on my sleeve, unapologetically.
I'm just getting tired of tried of hearing "You work too much". YES!!! OF COURSE I DO! Ask any entrepreneur who's in love with their work and life if they think they work too much. 99% of the time that answer will be a resounding "NO!". It's not work if you love what you do and besides, it's what we signed up for. I knew this, full well, going into this and wouldn't have it any other way.
I was raised in a deeply entrepreneurial family that lived and breathed the businesses we were involved in. Of course, there was downtime and yes, there was always plenty of fun! We loved our life together! But there was also a pervasive sense of work and faith in that ideology that I carry with my to my core.
Heather Saffer, in her bio on her companies (Dollop Gourmet) website sums it up perfectly...
"I have a voracious appetite for growth... I’d rather work than play, I’m all or nothing, and nonstop on the go."
BOOM!!!
AND THANK YOU HEATHER!!!
It's about time us entrepreneurs start standing up for what we believe in. What the heck happened to everyone? This entire country was built on a great work ethic. Us businesses owners love what we have birthed into the world. And form the conversations I have with other business owners everyday, it's true that most of us would rather work than play. It's why we chose this life. We knew that working for ourselves meant taking on a certain lifestyle. Believe me, it's better than working for someone else any day! And my work, is play... for the most part! So please, before I hear "You know, you work too much again"... please, go find something and someone else to harass with all of your sanctimonious free-time. OK? :) As Charlie Sheen simply tells Jennifer Grey in Ferris Bueller's Day off...
Yeah, kinda like that! And that is not to be misconstrued as a slight toward my awesomely supportive Sisters or family who I love dearly and let me do what I have to do everyday, with no interference what-so-ever. It's just a good and humorous way to illustrate my point.
Hey, if someday, I decided I want a different balance, I'll make it happen in a nano-second. I could honestly care less anymore about peripheral background noise from people who don't appreciate hard work and or just don't have to work as hard as us entrepreneurs generally do.
I have built exactly the life I envisioned years ago. My job, my family and a few precious friends keep me about as busy and fulfilled as I could ever wish to be. What more could I possibly want of out of life? -AA
